Superman and Darlene Smith
by Deborah Stinson
|
Superman died last week.
So did Darlene Smith.
Compared to Superman
only a handful of people
knew or cared about Darlene.
She was 54; two years older
than the suffering Christopher Reeve.
There were no headlines, no
specials on tv, no reporters
at her funeral
to attest to her strength
or philanthropy.
not able to leap tall buildings or
fund foundations for illnesses, she was
merely famous for her kind sense of humor.
She wasn’t paralyzed but had a heart that
said, ‘enough’ of the gravity of this earth.
maybe she flew up to heaven on the tail of
Superman’s cape;
but knowing Darlene,
she carried him.
